HCatalog Command Line Interface (CLI) Usage

HCatalog Command Line Interface (CLI) can be invoked from the command $HIVE_HOME/HCatalog/bin/hcat where $HIVE_HOME is the home directory of Hive. hcat is a command used to initialize the HCatalog server.

Step 1 - Open a new terminal (CTRL + ALT + T) and Change the directory to /usr/local/hive/hcatalog/bin




$ cd $HCAT_HOME/bin

Step 2 - Hcatalog command line interface (CLI).




$ ./hcat

HCatalog CLI usage.




usage: hcat { -e "" | -f "" } [ -g "" ] [ -p "" ] [ -D"=" ]
 -D    use hadoop value for given property
 -e              hcat command given from command line
 -f              hcat commands in file
 -g             group for the db/table specified in CREATE statement
 -h,--help             Print help information
 -p             permissions for the db/table specified in CREATE statement
